the trend list

We seem to be throwing red accessories into our outfits quite a bit.  What easier way to do this (in the winter months) than by tossing on a red coat?  I know Minnesota will be wearing hers with a leopard dress, and I plan on pairing mine with my black jeggings and Hunter rain boots.  (Will San Francisco's rainy season ever let up??)  But we'll definitely avoid wearing our rouge coats on the same days.  A little too "the British are coming"...

Here's the list:
1.  zara, studio straight coat, $169.99
2.  macy's, calvin klein coat, $189.99
3.  macy's, MICHAEL Michael Kors coat, $140
4.  forever 21, ruffled pea coat, $39.80
5.  macy's, INC jacket, $49.50
6.  forever 21, woven peacoat with hood, $32.80

the home decor list

Ahhh the parents are coming to town for the holidays, suddenly you notice the chip in the paint on the inside of your closet, the light bulb out above the guest bed, and the coffee stain on the side of your lounge chair (just one little drop, but you know your mom will see it the moment she walks in the door!)... the list can probably go on and on.  Here are a few easy ways to give your apartment a cozy cottage feel for the parents’ holiday visit, leaving you with plenty of time to get to all of the other things on the to do list.

I have a white couch (which I love), but it seems a bit too summery.  Love the idea of tossing a tartan print over it (not just over the arm, but cover the couch).  I personally like a dark base with a large print (small print can look a bit busy). As it turns out tartan throws can get quite expensive... head to the fabric store.  I found my Stewart black inspired print in the suiting department for $15 a yard. Otherwise, this Pendleton Throw is lovely! Neutral cable knit pillows are perfectly cozy on top, and can stay on long after the tartan has been stored for the summer. Change your light colored lamp shades out for a dark color that coordinates with your new throw.

Sparkles and candles always feel like the holidays.  Z Gallerie is my go to for sparkly home accessories.  Fill the table top trays with candles of varying heights.

1. sparkly trays, z gallerie, $13
2. candles, walmart, $4-24
3. throw, pendleton, $98
4. lamp shade, everylampshade, $4-$50
5. pillows, pottery barn, $39 each
6. pillow, pottery barn, $39

Now I always recommend holiday decorations (some garland here, some clear lights.... everywhere), but I know they add up (and who has the room to store them all after?!) Finally, the perfect finish for the fantastic hostess you are? Have your pantry stocked with the snacks and drinks that they love.

Most of us have some traveling to do for the holidays. And the majority of people (I hope it isn’t just us!) tend to look a bit of a mess after a taxi ride, going through security, waiting an hour to board-insert airport bar here-and a 4 hour plane ride (sorry stranger stuck next to me--you were the perfect height for napping/drooling on your cozy cashmere sweater!).  Below find out how travel in style; Malin wins the battle against LiLo, yet again. Here is a comfy, foolproof outfit, that your family will be proud to claim you in! Bon Voyage!

Here's the list:

1.  jacket, forever 21, $27.80
2.  jeggings, nordstrom, $38
3.  boots, target, $50
4.  print scarf/blanket for the plane, topshop, $32
5.  white t-shirt, american apparel, $19
6.  bag (big enough to hold everything you couldn't fit in your suitcase), forever 21, $35.80
7.  sunglasses, amazon, $3.66

the celebrity style list

Miss Stone looks like she was meant to wear leather. After the party? We say put tights, flats, and a cozy sweater on (think Alexa Chung) to make it workplace friendly. Voila! Leather sans the porn star.

Here's the list:

2. dress, asos, oasis faux leather dress, $62
3. pumps, dsw, dereon platforms, $55
4. ring, piperlime, kate spade, $50
5. temporary hair color, amazon, manic panic, $6.75

the wish list

the celebrity style list

We're totally obsessed with the idea of wearing leather shorts like Alexa Chung, but seeing as they're not entirely practical, we're not willing to spend more than $100 on them.  This pair from Shopbop fits the bill perfectly.  Either steal an oversized sweater from your boyfriend's closet, or pick one up that's a few sizes too big.  It looks like Alexa got hers for $235, but we'll stick with Forever 21 for now.

Here's the list:
1.  shorts, shopbop, black denim leather shorts, $98
2.  sweater, forever 21, cropped cable knit, $24.90
3.  booties, urban outfitters, suede oxford heels, $68
4.  bag, mango, fold-over clutch with chain, $24.99
5.  necklace, asos, dagger cross pendant, $6.90
6.  tights, kohls, apt. 9 opaque, $10 (seriously stock up on these for the fall/winter months)

the wish list

Yes, we live on the West Coast, and yes it is currently 60 degrees and raining, but yet, we are still desperately wishing we could have anyone of these beautiful bits of fur wrapped around us right now.  While the man may make absolutely gorgeous gowns, he has a gift with the fur.
PETA will soon be adding our little blog to their hate list, but nothing can stop our love.... Can you blame us?

Ahh, this brings me back to my childhood. My grandmother used to have old shoes and purses in her basement that we would play dress up in.  The two things my sister and I fought over every. single. time? The gold sparkly heels, and the (faux) fur muff. Thank goodness some things never change! I honestly think we should bring it back, it looks so ladylike! Although, I wouldn’t actually let that tuft of heaven anywhere near the bus.... If I had one of these I might honestly consider moving back to the cold weather; it would absolutely be worth it!

the celebrity style list

photo: zimbio.com
Here's the list:

1.  dress, BBDakota, $80
We are in love with this dress. It is fitted except for the adorable little peplum which adds interest, and
more importantly, leaves room to drink champagne.  This dress will also easily transfer to work by
adding a cardigan or button up underneath and tights on the bottom.
2.  belt, topshop, $32
3.  wallet, forever 21, sequin wallet, $12.80
or for fun: forever21, heart clutch $20.80
4.  classic black pump.
While Kate looks ADORABLE in the t-strap, we find for most of us it really chops off the leg.
Instead throw on your classic black pump to elongate!

the holiday shopping list

Oh what to buy these amazing women! My mother has an fantastic sense of style, but (unfortunately for me) she buys everything she wants or needs! And for the new moms, you know they are busy taking care of their new bundles of joy. So, whether it is for a brand new mom, or a mom that seems to have the answer to everything, jewelry is a safe bet.

replacements.com In combination our parents have been married for 77 years! So, their wedding china has probably seen better days (Mom-I swear it was the dog that knocked it off the table). Replacements.com is AMAZING, just be sure you know the china maker/model- they have a million and one options.

Spa cert. Can’t go wrong, most moms just don’t seem to pamper themselves as much as they deserve (each day that passes we are more and more aware of all the things they did for us). Pick her favorite local spot, or if you’re not sure a gift certificate from spafinder.com lets her pick. Even better plan a day together- you know she would love a little quality time with her favorite fashionable daughter.

My family has the old 8mm videos, but they are so fragile. HomeMovieDepot makes the process of having them transferred to dvd easy. Love the idea that they will be around for years to come-- let the bowl cut live on! Yes, I looked like Dorothy Hamel for a good 3 years........

here's the list:

1. moblie, frazier & wing, $75-$100
2. world of kiehl’s set, neiman marcus, $49
3. necklace, nordstrom, $98
4. taj blanket, giggle, $68
5. bombay elephant pillow, giggle, $52
6. framed bird print, eden & eden, $58
7. necklace, chicos $54
8. cake stand, pan american phoenix, $175

We adore the way Chloe has paired her long-sleeved leopard dress (a MUST in everyone's closets) with pops of red and gold.  Style tip (well in our opinion at least): Cleavage + leopard = cougar. So, to avoid looking desperate for attention a long sleeve, high neck animal print is classy. The short hem keeps it young and sexy!

Here’s the list:

1.  dress, victoria’s secret, on sale for $49
2.  necklace, macy’s,  kenneth cole, $38
3.  bracelet, macy’s, ralph lauren, $58
4.  clutch, aldo, $38
5.  shoes, piperlime, nine west, $70
